Sixty seconds, written against an eight-second ceiling.
The Reef is a sixty-second animated short built entirely from generated footage. Seedance 2.0 caps a generation at eight seconds, so the film is eight shots of 7.5 seconds rather than a continuous piece — and the cut does the work a camera move would do in live action.
Every character, environment and prop was built first as a named reference element that the shot prompts call by tag. That is what holds three characters consistent across eight separate generations. None of them has a mouth, so all sixteen lines are voiceover and nothing can desync.
The colour arc is the spine. Shots one to five hold a cold, desaturated green-blue with almost no warmth anywhere. Shot six is the only saturated frame in the film. Five shots of restraint buy one shot of colour.
